Fox6 TechCheck: Social Bookmarking
This week’s TechCheck is on social bookmarking. Now don’t let the name fool you. It is so much more than just sharing the things you bookmark (and honestly that is the least valuable thing in my opinion). Sites like the one we mentioned tonight: del.icio.us or delicious.com is one of the most popular ones out there to date.
Here are the two main reasons we recommend it:
1. It allows you to “tag” your bookmark with key phrases and keep them sorted by those phrases to make finding the proverbial needle in the haystack A LOT easier!
For instance: say you are doing research for a project over several months, well if one of your tags for sites you find are all the same i.e. “project”, then you will be able to reference all the links you’ve discovered for that project in one click of the mouse… pretty awesome, eh?
2. Well something just as awesome as what we just told you… with this type of bookmarking you can have access to your bookmarks from any computer with an internet connection. All you do is log into delicious.com and there they are… no more wishing you could remember the name of the site to show someone or trying to Google it in hopes to find it…. nope…. just log in and voila… your bookmarks are waiting for you.
