Shownotes and great websites for the January 26, 2008 edition of Tech Talk
On today’s show, which airs at 11:00 am c.s.t. on WAPI 1070am, Chase and Sam will be discussing the following topics:
- Not tech related, but amazing nonetheless: Christian woman makes the ultimate sacrifice for her baby- she delays treatment for a curable form of cancer so that her son can be born, and then dies two months later. Click here: Lorraine Allard is a hero.
- A great free program: Screen2Exe make screencast videos for free - useful for walking somebody through a computer problem. Just make a video and then email it to them!
- HD-Dvd is getting absolutely trounced by Blu-Ray. What effect will the Toshiba Hd-Dvd price cuts have on consumers? If I were you - I’d bet on Blu Ray.
- Cnet reviews the Apple Macbook Air, giving it a pretty high score. Man - does that thing look simply amazing, or what?!
- Neatorama tackles early computing history - as in thousands of years ago early!
- HP is offering a $465 dollar dual core notebook for sale, and the specs are pretty decent - 1GB of Ram, 120gb hard drive, Geforce graphics, 15.4 inch screen and a Dual layer DVD Burner. Even though he already did, I’ll answer the poster’s question about why anybody would buy an Eeepc for $399 when they could get a computer like this for a little more - it’s all about the size. I can carry my Eeepc around in my briefcase like a book - in fact, I can carry it wherever I go, and I usually do, since it’s so easy. Lugging a full size laptop around is a bit more of a chore.
- Riddle me this: Why in the world is Apple stock falling when Microsoft is so vulnerable right now? (because of their mediocre Vista). By the way - Microsoft is saying that Vista is more secure than OS X and Linux. I’m not hundred percent sure that they’re incorrect on that one (though I suspect so) Vista is indeed quite secure, but like the last few years of Norton’s Anti virus programs - that security comes with a heavy price: performance.
- Here’s a great video advertising the first ever home video game system by Magnavox….My how things have changed since then!
Finally, here are some links and stories sent in by our old friend Uncle Monster, who probably won’t be calling in today because he has Laryngitis. - An interesting map mashup showing terrorist activity world wide (more activity than I expected!)
- Sadly, it looks like AT&T will be monitoring internet traffic in the future.
- Did you know that hackers have been able to cause widespread blackouts?
- MPAA has been publishing false information about downloading of movies by college students.
- Software company reports that every (Windows?) computer was infected an average of 8 times last year.
- Every family needs a Panda Toaster:
