More AVG antivirus false positive issues.

Update #1 (2:44 pm c.s.t.) According to Kelly’s post below, it appears that this false positive problem is affecting both the paid and free versions of Grisoft’s AVG antivirus, and is affecting both Windows XP and Windows Vista. As of yet, it doesn’t appear that Grisoft has released a patch or update to remedy this problem. More information as it becomes available.
It appears that AVG has flagged GoogleDesktopSetup.exe and GoogleDesktopUpdate.exe as a false positive (i.e. AVG thinks they are a security threat, but they are not). AVG is reporting a Generic5.jjp Trojan horse on these files, but again, this appears to be inaccurate. AVG free is only supported by free forums (click here for them) and as such, no official information has come out from the product makers as of today. It is not a good idea to delete the above two Google files, as this will cause your system to not work properly in some cases. If you have already quarantined these files into the virus vault, then you should restore them, or follow the steps mentioned by one of the moderators on AVG’s free forums. CLICK HERE for the link, and follow down to the fourth post. It is possible that this issue may only be affecting Windows Vista computers. Please leave a comment here if you are having this issue - be sure to note what operating system you are using. It may also be possible to reinstall Google Desktop Search, if you have deleted or quarantined the above files. Follow the steps outlined in the forum post above before you do so, however. It might be a good idea to do the reinstall on Friday (07/13) or later to make sure AVG has had time to stamp out this issue.
Speaking of AVG - this is a string of several false positives in a row for them this week - and not just on small programs. In addition to World of Warcraft and Google Desktop Search - we have received emails that indicate the problem has happened with Heroes of Might and Magic 5 and Genesis Rising. We have recommended AVG on our radio and tv shows for years, but if this string of false positives continue, we might have to revisit that recommendation.
